Tips to Sell Your Home Faster in the Winter
December 11, 2017
Let’s face it: winter isn’t the easiest time to sell a house. However, with the right preparation and a good real estate agent, there’s a good chance you can get your home sold in a reasonable time at a good price.
If you’re looking to list or buy a home in the Columbus, Georgia real estate market this winter, use these tips to make your home more attractive to buyers:
Spruce up the curb appeal
The first thing buyers see is the front of your house, so be sure it makes a good impression. Look for and remedy anything that detracts from its appearance, such as dead or wilted plants, faded or chipped paint and overgrown shrubbery. Check to see that walkways and stairs leading up to the front door are in good repair.
Clean, clean, clean
Buyers love a clean home. To show your house at its best, make it sparkle. Dust and vacuum the nooks and crannies, have carpets cleaned, mop hard surface floors and wash the windows. Pay special attention to kitchens and bathrooms, which should receive a deep cleaning.
Clear up clutter
This is one of the most important steps to making your home look spacious and move-in ready. Remove winter boots and other seasonal clutter from the entryway. Clean out closets and store unneeded items elsewhere. Store children’s toys neatly on shelves or in bins. While you’re clearing clutter, check for areas that need paint touch-ups or repairs.
Maximize natural light
Open blinds and draperies for daytime photos and showings. Turn on interior lights and keep fixtures clean. Outdoors, use landscape lighting to enhance your home’s appearance in the evening. Before a showing, go through your house and make sure all lights are working properly.
Keep it cozy
People don’t like to linger in cold houses. Be sure heating systems are working properly. Set the thermostat at a comfortable temperature well in advance of showings on cold days.
Minimize holiday decorations
Aim for festive but not cluttered. Understated décor will show off your home to its best advantage, whereas exuberant decorations will only call attention to themselves.
Use flattering photos
When your house is spruced up, bright and decluttered, pick a beautiful day to take the listing photos. A blue sky will help to create a positive impression.
