Holiday Decoration Storage Ideas
December 17, 2022
If you’re working with one of our Columbus GA Realtors to find a new home for the new year, then it’s a good idea to go ahead and start making plans for the best way to store your holiday decorations. This will help you move them more easily, but it will also help you store them neatly and easily in your new home. Even if you’re already settled in your home, these storage tips should help make things easier for years to come.
When it comes to storing holiday decorations, clear plastic bins are your best friend. Ideally have one or more for each holiday, depending on the amount of decorations you have, and label them clearly and store them together.
Another option is to use an old suitcase that you don’t use for travel anymore. Use the zippered pockets for strands of lights and use the body for ornaments and other decorations. It’s a convenient way to store items, and just tag it clearly and keep it with any other holiday decorations.
No matter what you use for storage, make the most of any cardboard you get from boxes, etc. Cut up one of those numerous Amazon boxes and use a piece to wrap your lights around to keep them from getting tangled. Cut a slit at each end to hold the ends of the lights. This also works for garlands and other longer decorations that may tangle. You can also use cut up boxes to serve as layer dividers or shelves in your plastic storage bins so you can make the most of the space without things moving around.
When it comes to gift wrapping, there are various ways you can store everything from gift bags to wrapping paper rolls. Magazine racks are great for storing gift bags, folded tissue paper, tags, and other thin items. You can keep neutral ones stored separately to use for birthdays and other gifts throughout the year. For rolls of wrapping paper, consider a wire or plastic trash can to hold them upright and store them wherever is convenient. You may even be able to find cardboard containers specifically designed to hold wrapping paper, as well as ribbon, bows, labels, and more. It can fit in a closet for easy storage and use throughout the year.
To protect your door wreaths, make use of the wire hangers and plastic garment covers you get from dry cleaners. Bend the hangers so they will hold the wreath and then cover it all with the plastic garment back to keep them from getting dusty. They can be hung up in the garage or any other storage area.
These are just a few tips for helping you store your holiday decorations neatly and safely so that everything is easy to use next year. This should also help provide some organization and protection if you’re going to be moving to a new home, thanks to one of our dedicated Columbus GA Realtors. Happy Holidays!
